Five alleged illegal aliens from El Salvador were taken into custody after a traffic stop on Interstate 86 at the Elmira exit, state police said.

There were eight occupants in the Ford Expedition when troopers pulled it over for speeding shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday, state police said.

Two of those occupants were wanted on warrants from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the other three had been smuggled into the country, troopers said.

The other three occupants were all legal residents and were released without being charged. They told troopers they were from Long Island and were returning home after visiting Letchworth State Park.

The five suspected illegal aliens were turned over to ICE agents and transported to a holding facility in Batavia to await court appearances.
