A Border Patrol K-9, though, smelled something suspicious at the Falfurrias checkpoint. (U.S. Customs and Border Protection)

Federal agents found four men hidden underneath a shipment of oranges Friday at the Falfurrias checkpoint.

At about 7:20 a.m. Friday, agents with Homeland Security Investigations -- a division of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement -- and Border Patrol started following a truck north toward the Falfurrias checkpoint.

While the truck had links to an immigrant smuggling organization, the vehicle appeared to be hauling bags of oranges, according to federal court records.

A Border Patrol K-9, though, smelled something suspicious at the Falfurrias checkpoint.

Agents sent the truck to secondary inspection, where they found a Mexican man and three Guatemalan men hiding underneath the oranges.

"The UDAs were found to be sweating profusely when removed, had no way to exit in case of an emergency and made statements such as being afraid of suffocating, etc.," according to federal court records, which refers to people not legally present in the United States as UDAs -- an acronym for undocumented aliens.

Agents found another man hiding behind the front seat.

Investigators charged the driver, Lydia Galvan Villarreal, with transporting illegal aliens, according to federal court records.
