Armed Robbery Suspects Arrested at Border Patrol Checkpoint

Armed Robbery Suspects Arrested at Arizona Border Patrol Checkpoint

    (Monday, April 20, 2009)

Yuma, Ariz. – U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Yuma Station apprehended two subjects and seized a loaded handgun, drug paraphernalia and nearly $1,000 in cash early Sunday morning.

On April 19, a tan 2008 Toyota Camry approached the primary inspection lane of the Highway 95 Border Patrol checkpoint located near Quartzsite, Ariz. During the inspection, a U.S. Border Patrol K-9 alerted to the vehicle and the possible presence of contraband. The vehicle was then referred for further inspection.

Drug paraphernalia is among other contraband discovered in the vehicle of potential armed robbers.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, agents found a loaded 9 mm Hi-Point pistol in the glove compartment. Seven syringes, two ski masks, a scale and a set of binoculars were also found in the vehicle. During a search of the suspects, agents found a bag of methamphetamine and nearly $1,000 cash.

Due to the discovery of contraband, agent’s contacted Yuma Sector communications to inquire about any suspicious activity in the local area. After discovering that a local hotel had been robbed at gun point the night before, agent’s contacted the Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Yuma Police Department.

Both suspects, the firearm, cash, methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia were turned over to the Yuma Police Department.

Gotta love those pups, and we need to send cases of biscuits for Christmas for the entire K-9 officer corps.
