    CALDWELL — Canyon County Prosecutor John Bujak weighed in on the increasingly high-profile issue of illegal immigration Thursday, saying illegals are booked into jail almost daily and deported — but they often return.

    Bujak said local law officers cooperate with federal immigration officials to identify those arrested who are in the country illegally.

    After the suspects have been held accountable for breaking the law in Canyon County, he said, they are ultimately prosecuted federally when appropriate and then removed from the United States.

    The prosecutor took on the issue in a prepared statement tied to recent political discussion of illegal immigration, in part stemming from a tough new law in Arizona that targets undocumented aliens.
