Two arrested while supporting woman facing deportation

Posted on: 7:48 pm, December 20, 2012, by Brandon Jones, updated on: 07:55pm, December 20, 2012

GREENSBORO, N.C. —Maria Perez’s fate isn’t clear right now.
The mother of three young girls has lived in the Alamance County for the past decade.
    She’s often known as provider.
Perez also takes care of her elderly father who suffers from glaucoma.
Perez is set to be deported back to Mexico on December 27th ripping her away from the family that loves her so much.
Perez turned to the North Carolina Dream Team for help.
The group which supports immigration rights held a rally outside of Senator Hagan’s office in Greensboro.
NC Dream Team member Santiago Garcia says they want the Senator to give them a letter of support and stop Perez’s deportation.
“Imagine these three young girls not growing up without a mother. I mean that would be awful,” Garcia said.
    Perez’s troubles began on December 21 2010.
An Alamance County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped her after she was caught driving without a license.
Perez cannot get one legally because she is considered undocumented.
“This is the struggle we want Senator Hagan to know about. I mean there’s no legal option for her right now,” Garcia said.
Two members in Garcia’s group were arrested this evening for trespassing, but have since been released.
Senator Hagan was not in her office, but the group says she released a statement saying she does not get involved with individual cases.
In the meantime, the group has started a petition in support to stop Perez’s deportation.

Oh my God imagine that, a womn who put herself in the position of being seperated from her kids! Uh yeah, that would be aweful, but she chanced it when she decided to neglect laws and come here anyway. Do they really think for one minute that anyone else is to blame for this situation?

She has been here for a decade. She has had plenty of time to become legal. She had the option of coming here legally ten years ago. It's her own fault and no one elses.

This is one of the most biased articles I've read in a while. It's disgusting.

They want to make it sound like the world will end if this illegal alien lawbreaker is deported. She knew better when she came here. They all do.

I'm sure the kids don't want their mother deported, but at least she will be alive and they can still communicate with and visit her if they don't want to leave with her. Look at all the people who have just lost loved ones in the Connecticut school killings, who can't call their mothers, sisters, children. Think of all those who have been murdered or otherwise victimized by illegal alien perpetrators in this country. You can't take that back. They don't get a second chance.

This woman and her kids should feel pretty darned lucky that her worst fate could be deportation from a country she has stolen from for a decade. It could be so much worse.
