A Guatemalan man once convicted of breaking into a vehicle in Alabama has been charged with illegal re-entry into the United States after he was arrested in Castro County.

Federal authorities in Amarillo charged Domingo Lopez-Sambria, 26, with illegal re-entry Wednesday after he was arrested in Dimmitt.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents took Lopez-Sambria into custody Thursday at the Castro County Sheriff’s Office, federal court records show.

Immigration agents entered Lopez-Sambria’s fingerprints into a national computer database and checked other records to confirm that he was in the United States illegally.

Lopez-Sambria was previously deported from Alexandria, La., on Jan. 27, 2011, after he was convicted of the felony offense of unlawful breaking and entering of a vehicle on Dec. 13, 2010, in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Lopez-Sambria did not obtain federal government permission to return to the United States as required by federal law. He remains in custody at the Randall County jail.
