Thread: Austin couple places baby Jesus in 'ICE cage' to protest Trump immigration policies

A couple from Austin, Texas, placed a baby Jesus in a cage outside their home as a way to protest President Trump's immigration policies.

Video footage from Fox 7, a local news station, shows the cage featuring the acronym for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The display also includes a sign featuring the message, “give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.”

"We are making a statement because during this holiday season no matter what country you live in, no matter what your ethnicity is you should be with your family at this time and unfortunately our country in recent history has decided to separate families," Kate Naranjo told the news station in an interview, referencing a now-cancelled policy that resulted in thousands of families being separated at the southern border earlier this year.

She added that, "If you know your history and you know the story of the nativity scene then you don't see this as political because this is a reflection of Jesus’s story."

"He was a refugee," she continued. "Each year we try to bring a little levity but also some seriousness to the holiday season."

It's not the first time baby Jesus has been used to condemn the family separation policy that was once implemented by the Trump administration. In July, an Indiana church placed statues of Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus inside a barricaded fence as a way to protest the policy.

Trump faced bipartisan outrage earlier this year over a policy that separated families who illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border.

Trump in the summer signed an executive order that halted the practice.

I think they put the doll in the cage so no one would steal it. They're just using Trump to cover their tracks so the people don't think they think they're all crooks.
