At Least 50 Illegal Immigrants Found in Stash House

MERCEDES - Border Patrol agents are processing a large group of illegal immigrants, which includes 11 children. The group consisted of 50 people from Central America and Mexico.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS cameras were rolling as agents took the illegal immigrants into custody on Levee Road.

Agents searched nearby brush and a Homeland Security Investigation chopper searched a field for more undocumented immigrants. Mercedes police were called in to assist.

The search lasted well into the afternoon and prompted a lockdown at two schools.

Border Patrol agents tell us they deal with the children based on their country of origin. The children will be sent to the Office of Refugee Resettlement. Some may stay in camps across the U.S. until they can be returned to their country.

Tip Led to Stash House North of Donna

NORTH OF DONNA - More than 60 illegal immigrants discovered during a raid are waiting to be deported. A tip led authorities to a stash house north of Donna. We learned the tipster witnessed several people being dropped off.

A Homeland Security helicopter patrolled the skies and set its sights on the secluded property yesterday. A group of illegal immigrants took off running.

Law enforcement officers worked several hours to round everyone up. One person in the group was identified as a smuggler. He's being questioned.
