LEXINGTON – Several law enforcement agencies were sent on a chase Friday afternoon after a man attempted to evade arrest according to Lexington Police Chief Tracy Wolf.

Wolf said Jose Manuel Castro Moreno, 29, was arrested around 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon in southeast
Lexington with the cooperation of the Dawson County Sheriff’s Department, the State Patrol, city workers and citizens.

Wolf said officers were on the look out for Moreno after a call came in at 10:21 a.m. Friday involving him in a sexual assault.

Moreno was spotted driving around 2:10 p.m. today (Friday) and a pursuit began after officers attempted to pull him over.

Wolf said Moreno then abandoned his car and fled on foot. Officers combed the area for about 15 minutes before finding him near Taft and Willow streets, where Wolf said they were able to take him into custody.
Moreno, who was previously deported for prior charges, was charged with first-degree sexual assault, motor vehicle theft, felony re-entry and willful reckless driving to avoid arrest. He is being housed at the Dawson County Jail.

Law enforcement shut down the Lexington Aquatic Center for safety precautions during the search.
Wolf said Moreno’s arrest was a team effort of the Dawson County Sheriff’s Department, State Patrol, city workers and citizens who called in suspect sightings.
