Why immigration reform is needed now

Why immigration reform is needed now
    Published Thursday, July 23, 2009

The United States is the third-largest country in the world both in population and land mass. China and India each have four times as many people as we do. Both Russia and Canada have a lot more uninhabitable frozen tundra than we do. So we are not going to run out of space in this country any time soon. The United Nations estimates approximately 3 million U.S. citizens permanently move to other countries every year. Most are retirees moving to Latin America, but some are younger people going to Europe and Latin America to start a business where they see more opportunity and less regulation. The U.N. also reports that there will be many more illegal immigrants here and in other countries around the world in the future because of war and conflict, hunger and failed governments in their homeland.

Congress is already working on immigration reform. They want to secure our borders, deport those who commit felonies, fine those who come here illegally, keep families together, and then create a path to citizenship for them. Business leaders want them to stay because they have an excellent work ethic. With our aging baby boomer population retiring over the next 20 to 30 years, we need all the workers we can get to keep our economy going.

Anti-immigration sentiment is fueled by so much misinformation, and messages of hate are not welcome in America. Coming into the U.S. illegally is not a violation of civil or criminal law, it is a violation of immigration law. Some have come here without having their documents reviewed; many more came here on a visa and never left again after their visa expired. Someone said California spends $8 billion a year on illegal immigrants. However, those same illegal immigrants pump hundreds of billions of dollars into the California economy each year in goods and services just going about their daily lives. Like anyone else who does not have health insurance, they either pay for health care out of pocket or do without. Those with phony ID and Social Security numbers will pay into the Social Security system but are not eligible to receive any benefits from that system.

For those God-fearing people who read the Bible, Matthew 25 tells of the punishment to expect for those who do not welcome the stranger or alien among us.

Finally, it’s not just about us and what we want. It’s about our grandchildren, the future of our country and the world. And freedom and justice for all.

I'm 54 years old and remember this same debate was carried out in the early 1980's. I was 31 in 1986 and was for the 'One Time Only Amnesty' because it was promised that immigration laws there after would be enforced.

It is much cheaper to help people in their own country than to try to bring them to the United States. Many people say things don't even cost a tenth as much elsewhere: a school, a clinic, a road. They don't need the endless circus of consumer goods that Americans depend upon; they might even be happier in new communities where there is no dependence upon the automobile. I've been to UN meetings, too, and some of the talk is how other countries may surpass the US one day---if they just do things right.

The UN operates its Center for Human Settlements Habitat program and is supposed to be finding ways to come up with cost effective ways to get people into homes. They just gave an award to CEMEX corp, in Mexico for their program "Property Today" a seventy week home ownership workshop.

Our Congress claims it is working on immigration reform and claiming our National Borders are Secured only for their own benefit.

Of course the more the Elitist Special Interest Groups financially benefit from the ILLEGALS the more money that is poured into the coffers of the Elitist Politicians to support the ILLEGALS but this is really not new, the Chamber of Commerce has always been working in support of the ILLEGALS.

The ILLEGALS are comfortable with pushing ahead of everyone else including U.S. Citizens who do not receive the same preferential treatment in all areas. U.S. Citizens have already lost “entry levelâ€

Oh, I just love this line, but then I get sick of hearing it. It's nothing but fear mongering and propaganda. They would group us all together as foreign hating racists. I am a god-fearing man and I welcome the stranger and alien, as long as he can enter under regulation and not at he pleases. There are other quotes in the Bible that condem those who would invade their neighbor's lands.

Will the author in the future utilize the following passage to justify his defense of his ILLEGALS for his own gains?

    Leviticus 25
44 “However, you may purchase male and female slaves from among the nations around you. 45 You may also purchase the children of temporary residents who live among you, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, 46 passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance."

Does this indicate that it is alright for ILLEGALS and their Anchors to be slaves for the ILLEGAL EMPLOYERS and the Chamber of Commerce or any other Elitist Contributors for our Elitist Politicians?

Would Albert Leans welcome throngs of poor LEGAL immigrants? Your arguement against illegals is a facade. You only want people with money coming to town.

One of the foremost reasons for having immigration laws is so that the Immigrant NOT BECOME a burden to society!
