Immigration Bust in West Phoenix

A major immigration bust happened today in West Phoenix.
Dozens of people were packed into one house near 91st Avenue and McDowell Road.

It all started with a report of gunshots.

"And when officers arrived in the neighborhood they noticed several people running from 8818 W. Vernon," said Detective Stacy Durgy with Phoenix Police.

Durgy said the single-story home near 91st Avenue appears to be a drop house for illegal immigrants.

"At this time we have 60 people that are detained there and the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement units are here to investigate the situation," Durgy said.

ICE has now taken the suspects away. But as for the gunshots, there were no sign of any firearms at all.

"Gunshots" sometimes the only way you can get a police response

Gunshots heard are often used when people call the police and that should only be used when it is true. People don't realize that there is a priority system and some calls that aren't life threatening can wait. A bad car wreck, an armed robbery, medical emergency and a violent domestic in progress are more important than a stolen wallet or a home that had been burglarized and had been checked previously by the police.
