    AZ: Legislature approves bill to make English state's

    Legislature approves bill to make English state's official language

    PHOENIX The Arizona Legislature approved a proposal today to declare English as the state's official language.
    That action sends the bill to Democratic Governor Janet Napolitano for her consideration.

    The proposal also would require that official government functions be conducted in English.

    Supporters say the measure is needed to encourage assimilation of immigrants.

    Opponents say the bill isn't so much about protecting English as it is an attack on illegal immigrants. {Yeah, so what?}

    A nearly identical official-language measure also is under consideration by lawmakers.

    That proposal, if approved by the full Legislature, would bypass the governor and instead appear on the 2006 ballot for voters to consider whether to put the change in the state constitution.

    The measure has cleared the House and awaits action by the full Senate.

    She got elected because of two things? 1. Feminists 2. Illegal aliens. Why do you think she vetoed that last bill?

    This bill is just a waste of time and money.They did the same thing here in California.Of course English is the official language-why do they debate this?Making English the official language of a state (again) by wasting money is just that,a waste of money.It changes absolutely nothing!Are we going to have a special police detail making sure that this is followed?
    After all this is the state of Arizona they're talking about.Just a bunch of people taking the easy route with a meaningless impotent drive instead of addressing the real issue at hand:get a grip on your border.
