Mesa police arrest driver after fatal collision
    Eddi Trevizo, Tribune
A man who fled the scene after running over a pedestrian was arrested by Mesa police Friday afternoon, according to authorities.

Mesa police said a man was killed after he slid off the roof of the vehicle and was run over near the 2300 block of East University Drive.

Police said Martin Rodriguez, 21, of Mesa was driving the truck, and that he drove off and abandoned it about two miles from the crash scene. Rodriguez then ran to a relative’s home and was persuaded by family to turn himself in at around 4:30 p.m., according to police.

Rodriguez told police that before the incident his car had been rammed a number of times by a vehicle occupied by two men. He said one of the men began to hit his vehicle, and he attempted to flee. One of the men jumped on the hood of the car and was killed when he slid off, according to police reports.

Rodriguez told police he fled the scene because he had been deported before, according to authorities.

Does he have ANY proof at all? Bet he'll try to claim a U visa.

Regardless, he needs to be deported anyway.
