Arizona House OKs border fence bill

Associated Press - April 18, 2011 11:24 PM ET

PHOENIX (AP) - The Arizona House passed a bill allowing the state to compact with other states for the construction of a fence along the U.S-Mexico border.

The measure allows for Arizona to develop its own funding plan for construction of the fence, be it through private or public donations.

Those that oppose the bill say the fence coverage of only 6% of the border is not the solution.

Supporters of the bill say it may not be the best solution, but it's a good start to a solution the federal government has failed to provide.

The bill now goes to the Arizona Senate.
