Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon gets award from Mexican officials

Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon gets award from Mexican officials

He "has been a leader in forging relationships to bolster economic ties between Mexico and Arizona and boost regional prosperity," the consulate's office said in a statement.

"This has led to empowerment of the Mexican and Mexican-American communities in Arizona, often in the face of adversity."
Mayor Phil Gordon received a prestigious award from the Mexican government Thursday night at an invitation-only celebration at City Hall for Mexico's Independence Day.

Mexican government officials gave Gordon the Ohtli Award during an exclusive dinner that Gordon's aide, Janey Pearl, said was paid for by the Mexican government.

"It's a public facility, but it's not open to the public," Pearl said of the event.

Typically, Latinos and the Mexican Consulate have held the Mexican Independence Day celebrations at restaurants or other informal settings. This is the first time the celebration has been held at City Hall.

She did not provide further details about the rental agreement with the Mexican Consulate.

The Ohtli Award is the Mexican government's highest honor for a civilian living outside of Mexico who helped "enhance the standard of living for Mexicans living abroad," according to the Mexican Consulate in Phoenix.

The award is usually given to someone of Mexican or Latino descent. Gordon, who is White, is among a few exceptions to this tradition.

"This has led to empowerment of the Mexican and Mexican-American communities in Arizona, often in the face of adversity."

The mayor's office did not respond to a request for comment from Gordon about the award.

Last year, Gordon decried the new Arizona immigration law, Senate Bill 1070, as unnecessarily divisive and likely to harm the economy.

In its original form, the law signed by Gov. Jan Brewer in spring 2010 would have allowed law enforcement to stop anyone suspected of being in the country illegally and check their immigration status. But a federal judge last year disabled many key provisions. Brewer is still fighting the decision in the courts.

Gordon and Phoenix City Manager David Cavazos, also have courted Mexican business and traveled a few times to Mexico this past year to persuade a Mexican airline, Volaris, to begin offering direct Arizona-Mexico flights from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Their efforts have not been rewarded yet.

The medallion of the "Ohtli," which in Nahuatl (Aztec) means "pathway," features footprints.

Earlier this year, the Mexican government gave the award to former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, who also is a former ambassador to the United Nations.

And in doing so, committed treason against this country! I guess that makes him an honorary latino. I'm sure Gordon is blushing with pride. Too bad they couldn’t give him mexican citizenship so we could deport Gordon.

Yes...as in a "pathway" to reconquista and colonization. We allow these invaders to colonize this country right out in the open. We even have our very own elected officials, like Gordon, accepting awards from them for doing his part to further the reconquista. How does this traitor look himself in the mirror each morning? Simply amazing!
