Virginia Democrats Advance Bill to Give Driver’s Licenses to up to 300,000 Illegal Immigrants

by Penny Starr 7 Feb 2020

The Democrats’ takeover of the Virginia statehouse includes advancing legislation that would give driver’s licenses to as many as 300,000 illegal immigrants in the state.

The local Fox News affiliate reported that critics say the law would reward this demographic, which has already broken the law by being in the country illegally. Those who support the bill say it would “increase the state’s revenue and decrease the level of fear existing in the immigrant community.

“There’s 17 other states who have done it and the other states have removed the legal presence requirement, the number of collisions have gone down,” Scott Surovell, a Democrat, said in the Fox 5 report.

Fox 5 reported the large population of illegal immigrants that could be issued licenses:

Senator Surovell says it would impact between 160,000 and 300,000 undocumented immigrants without driver’s licenses in the Commonwealth; immigrants in Virginia illegally but working, going to doctor’s appointments and more. Many who if stopped in a routine traffic stop could face being detained or deported.

Surovell says granting driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants could generate between ten million and seventeen million dollars a year.

Aside from the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, 15 states allow illegal immigrants to legally drive — California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Vermont, and Washington.

The Virginia Senate will vote on the bill on Monday, according to the Fox report, and the House will vote on an identical bill. If the bill passes both chambers and Democrat Gov. Ralph Northam signs it, the law would go into effect on January 1, 2021.

It may be a US Department of Transportation issue, instead. I'm just guessing. Maybe both departments. Foreign drivers already have a legal method to drive in the US----they bring their country's license with an International Driver Permit. It's protocol. We need to have the Supreme Court uphold this. And we need a second Trump administration for that to happen.

But as they say in law, there is already a remedy available, with equal access to anyone willing and qualified to do it. It is what we have to do to legally drive in Argentina, Ecuador, Brazil, Honduras, etc.

Illegal aliens should NOT be awarded U.S. drivers licenses.

They should all be apprehended, fined, jailed, and/or deported on the spot.

ANY PERSON WHO "KNOWINGLY" EVADES THE PROVISIONS OF THE IMMIGRATION LAWS SHOULD BE IMPRISONED FOR NOT MORE THAN 5 YEARS, FINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH TITLE 18, OR BOTH.

THE STATES WHO ARE ISSUING DRIVERS LICENSES TO ILLEGAL ALIENS ARE "WILLFULLY AND BLATANTLY EVADING" OUR FEDERAL IMMIGRATION & VISA LAWS!

Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigration Responsibility Act

    Primary tabs

    Overview

The Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (IIRAIRA) strengthened U.S. immigration laws, adding penalties for undocumented immigrants who commit crimes while in the United States or who stay in the U.S. for statutorily defined periods of time.

The Act was designed to improve border control by imposing criminal penalties for racketeering, alien smuggling and the use or creation of fraudulent immigration-related documents and increasing interior enforcement by agencies charged with monitoring visa applications and visa abusers.

The Act also allows for the deportation of undocumented immigrants who commit a misdemeanor or a felony.

The Act mandates that immigrants who are unlawfully present in the U.S. for 180 days but under 365 days must remain outside the United States for three years unless pardoned.

If they remain in the United States for 365 days or more, they must stay outside the United States for ten years unless they obtain a waiver.

We have over 25-30 MILLION undocumented immigrants who need to be deported and MUST STAY OUTSIDE OF THE UNITED STATES for ten years!

We have thousands who are unlawfully present that have poured over our border in the last 180 days and MUST REMAIN OUT OF THE UNITED STATES for three years!

Now load them up on ships and enforce this LAW that is on the books!

    That includes NO drivers licenses!!!

Don't reward the criminal actions of millions of illegal aliens by giving them citizenship.

ALL illegal aliens are subject to deportation, drivers license or not.

A drivers license will not protect them from deportation.

Any law enforcement officer who encounters an illegal alien driving on our roads needs to hand them over to ICE and impound the car.

Do entire sweeps of our cities, process them, and deport them!

The Supreme Court needs to get involved and settle this matter now.
