Biden backlash: ‘Immigration Index’ shows rejection of open borders

In just a few weeks since President Biden signaled his plans to open the border, which is now welcoming illegals into southern towns, the Rasmussen Reports “Immigration Index” has recorded a new high of voters favoring “a more restrictions policy.”
The pollster said that the biggest shift is among independent voters. But Democrats are also starting to question Biden’s policies. In just two weeks, the percentage of Democrats who believe the government is doing “too little” to stop illegal immigration jumped five points, to 34%.

The shift to alarm over Biden’s immigration policy has come remarkably fast. The media is just starting to report on Biden’s border opening and the wave of illegals planning to come in.
Former Trump officials, including former top aide Stephen Miller, have warned against Biden's changes and said it will lead to a dramatic voter backlash on the border and especially among Hispanics.
Rasmussen’s Immigration Index uses a baseline of 100 gauge voter sentiment. A number below 100 indicates support for a more restrictionist policy. The number is 86, down nearly 15 points since Election Day.
The change suggests that voters fear that immigration is or will soon be out of control.
In his early pro-immigration moves, Biden has halted most deportations and stopped a program requiring new immigrants and those seeking asylum wait in Mexico until their paperwork clears.
In the past week, the administration has begun to welcome in those previously held in Mexico and this week opened up tents for unaccompanied children, similar to those Team Biden criticized the Trump administration for using.
The Immigration Index asks several questions to likely voters. Among them is an amnesty question, and the result does not favor Biden’s policy.
According to Rasmussen, “The new president also has indicated that he wants to legalize all illegal immigrants in the country, and 39% favor giving lifetime work permits to most of the estimated 12 million illegal residents of all ages who currently reside in the United States, with 18% who strongly favor it. Fifty-four percent are opposed, including 36% who are strongly opposed.”
