Agents Arrest Sex Offender after Re-Entering the U.S. Illegally
Release Date: February 25, 2020
DULZURA, Calif.—Border Patrol agents working near the U.S./Mexico border arrested a convicted sex offender who entered the U.S. illegally. The man has a felony conviction for a sex crime with a minor.
The event occurred on February 23 at approximately 7 a.m., when agents encountered three people approximately one mile north of the U.S./Mexico International Boundary. All three were Mexican nationals illegally present in the U.S. Agents arrested the group and transported them to a nearby Border Patrol station for processing.
Record checks revealed that one of the men, a 37-year-old, had a 2006 felony conviction for “Lewd or Lascivious Acts with a Child under 14” in the state of California. The man was sentenced to 365 days in prison and subsequently deported to Mexico. His history also included several prior deportations.
“I am proud of the great work agents demonstrated in arresting this child predator,” said San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Aaron Heitke. “Their vigilance prevented this dangerous person from illegally re-entering our communities.”
The 37-year-old man is currently in Department of Homeland Security custody and faces Federal charges for illegal re-entry after deportation.
The remaining two males in the group will be processed for removal.
To prevent the illicit smuggling of humans, drugs, and other contraband, the U.S. Border Patrol maintains a high level of vigilance on corridors of egress away from our Nation’s borders. To report suspicious activity to the U.S. Border Patrol, contact San Diego Sector at (619) 498-9900.
