Body Found in Rio Grande River Near Mercedes

Border Patrol agents found an apparent drowning victim in the Rio Grande river in Mercedes just south of Rio Rico road. Agents found the body just after 5pm this afternoon.

The Hidalgo sheriff's department has stepped in to investigate the drowning and the body has not yet been identified. The exact cause fo death remains unknown and sheriffs deputies and border agents are continuing their investigation.
