$355,000 seized at B&M bridge from Matamoros man

A Mexican national with an outstanding warrant was arrested at the B&M International Bridge and found to be carrying more than $300,00 in cash, authorities said.

Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio said Jiro Vasquez, 30, of Matamoros, was stopped at the bridge during a southbound inspection when deputies discovered Vasquez had an outstanding warrant from the Brownsville Police Department.
He said Vasquez became nervous when he couldn't provide a driver's license or vehicle registration for his GMC Yukon.

According to authorities, a K-9 unit discovered 11 bundles of cash totaling $355,735 hidden in the SUV. Lucio said the money was found in a spare tire.


Vasquez is charged with possessing and not declaring more than $10,000 in cash.
