Boehner: Vote To Defund Amnesty ‘Not About The Issue Of Immigration,’ About ‘Overreach’

House Republican’s effort to defund President Obama’s executive amnesty is not about immigration as much as it is about reining in the executive branch, Speaker John Boehner argues.

“We’re voting to block the president’s overreach,” Boehner told reporters on Tuesday, when asked about the potential impact on the Latino vote. “His executive overreach, which I believe is beyond his constitutional duty and frankly violates the Constitution itself. This is not about the issue of immigration. What it is is about the president acting lawlessly.”

Wednesday the House is expected to vote on funding for the Department of Homeland Security, which expires in February. House Republicans plan to attach a series of amendments to the appropriations bill that would block Obama’s executive orders on immigration.

“This week the House will act to fully fund the Department of Homeland Security through appropriations while blocking the president’s unilateral action with regard to immigration,” Boehner explained.

Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) described the plan’s further legislation to “reestablish the rule of law making it clear it is the Congress, not the White House who writes immigration laws.”

Monday evening the White House threatened to veto the DHS funding bill if it included provisions that would block Obama’s executive actions on immigration.

“The President looks forward to working with the Congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform and an appropriations bill funding the Department of Homeland Security that is free from ideological provisions,” the White House explained in a statement of administrative policy.

When pressed on whether he would allow a funding bill free of provisions to block Obama’s orders to come to the floor, Boehner did not commit one way or the other, instead reiterating that his conference’s goals are to fund DHS and stop Obama’s “executive overreach.”

“This is not the way our government was intended to work,” he said. “The president said 22 times that he did not have the authority to do what he eventually did. He knows the truth here and so do the American people and our job is to listen to the American people and hold the president accountable.”

It's about both the policy itself as well as the over-reach. To say it's more of one than the other isn't accurate, Mr. Speaker. When a President takes an executive action that the public supports that may over-reach in the strict standard of the law when the law is bad, no one cares and everyone celebrates. But when a President takes an executive action that thwarts the purpose of the law when the law is good and protects the American People, then it is not the law but the executive action that is bad, and everyone cares and revolts against the executive action. In this case, it is the policy and action that are bad along with the fact that it's usurping our legislative and constitutional processes, betraying the American People in favor of foreign interests, and overpopulating our nation with people who don't belong here, who can't afford to live here, who have no respect for our people, laws or nation, and pose economic, financial and security risks to American Citizens.

When an American citizen is killed or murdered by an illegal alien is it the fault of the illegal alien or the government that let them in, allowed them to stay, supported their residence household and offered them permits, green cards, visas and citizenship to remain here? In criminal law, both would be responsible, one would be the killer and the other the conspirator that created and encouraged the crime.

When an American citizen is left unemployed and destitute because jobs were funneled to illegal aliens and excess immigrants, is it the fault of the illegal alien and excess immigrants or the government that let them in, allowed them to stay, supported their residence household and offered them permits, green cards, visas and citizenship to remain here? In immigration law, both would be responsible, because under existing law, the government is prohibited from allowing workers into the country who compete with US citizens for jobs. That's why only Congress can set the number of immigrants allowed into the country and also why when there are too many workers allowed into the country, Congress is responsible for the harm caused by those entries.

When there is no Constitutional obligation to allow foreign entry to our country and a government persists in doing so in spite of the obvious consequences, who is responsible for that harm, that unemployment, that cost to taxpayers, that cost to consumers, that cost to workers, that cost to citizens? Who can be more responsible than the government that invited them, lured them, baited them, financed them, assisted them, and treated them like an untouchable class of persons above the law, reason and logic?

For those of us who care about our country, it doesn't matter whether it's a Republican participating in this travesty against our citizens or a Democrat. For those of us who put the well-being of our nation and fellow citizens above all else, it doesn't matter what political party the culprits executing this sham against our nation belong to or claim to be a part of. We care about the outcome and hold those responsible for the travesty accountable for their actions. Whether we are Republicans or Democrats, we all want the same things for our nation, a nation of self-sustaining citizens, functioning in a state of well-being, with good jobs, sustainable wages, and businesses that can afford to provide them which our nation can not accomplish with massive immigration, legal or illegal, let alone both as we have now. We can not allow this disaster to continue and can assure you, we won't. My family has been here a long time, from before the Revolutionary War, fought in the Revolutionary War, we were part of the first Republicans, before the Civil War, and fought in that War to end slavery, so we know the American Dream, we know the American Ideals, we know the American Way, and have fought in every war since to defend or perfect that dream, those ideals and our way.

Today, our nation is so far off course, our ancestors are weeping in their graves, and as descendants we are called upon to stop this insanity, which we will, because we must. Republicans can be the solution if Republican officials choose to stop it. And if after all these years of this immigration travesty, Republican officials are unwilling or incapable of doing so, then they need to resign their office, go home, and clear a path for those with the skill sets to do so. For any Republican to claim they can not convince a handful of Democrats to stop this nonsense is total folly and is less a blame on Democrats than a confession of their own ineptness on the part of Republicans.

Of course it is not about Obama's amnesty. John Boehner and Mitch McConnell both support that! They just dont like the way Obama gave the illegal aliens nation destroying amnesty.

Good point! It's time for Republicans to clean-up our own House and Senate, and that means cleaning up the messages they speak. Americans are opposed to both the policy and the executive action, and that is the message the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Majority Leader of the Senate need to be delivering any time and all the time. It should also be noted that this isn't a political race for the White House, this is much more important than that. This is about saving our nation from the ravages of excess immigration, both illegal and legal. Again, to those who often times miss the point, the issue is not only about illegal aliens, it's about too many immigrants that our nation can't sustain successfully without impairing and disabling the lives of Americans. This has been the fundamental notion behind all immigration from the beginning of our nation. When immigrants are displacing Americans, when immigrants are adversely impacting the well-being of Americans, our government has the obligation to correct it by all means necessary which includes not only stopping illegal immigration in its tracks and deporting all those here illegally to remove them from our premises, it also means reducing legal immigration as well, which today requires massive cuts in the numbers.

Now, beware, because there are already stories coming out in the news about the shortage of job applicants, down from 6 to 1 to 2 to 1. That isn't true. Those are false reports and we all do or should know that. And don't be fooled by Aetna raising their internal minimum wage to $16 an hour. They needed to do that regardless because of the locations where their offices and operations are located in expensive high-cost living areas. How they expected good employees to live on the former $11 an hour in these high-cost areas just shows how off base they were to begin with and has no reflection on the number of jobs and applicants for those jobs or how pro-immigration fanatics will use it to claim more immigrants are needed, when they clearly are not.
