Bonita man accused of going on rampage with machete

Posted August 17, 2009 at noon

A Guatemalan national remained jailed Monday accused of striking three people with a machete after breaking into the home of the mother of his children in Bonita Springs while four children younger than seven years old were inside.

Luis Alonzo Diaz, 33, who lists two addresses: 10107 Sandy Hollow and 26690 Cape Verde Lane in Bonita Springs, was charged early Sunday with three counts of aggravated battery, a single count of burglary while armed and a misdemeanor criminal mischief charge. He was being held in jail pending posting of a total of $130,000 bond, according to a Lee County Sheriff's Office report. He also is an undocumented alien, the report shows.

    According to the report:

About 12:18 a.m. Delmy Floridalma Herrarte Arana, 22, and Eder Daniel Sanchez Samayoa, 27, were in Arana's bedroom n the 26000 block of Cape Verde Lane when someone broke the window with a machete. The man also swung the machete at the two people, but Samayoa raised his hand to block it, which caused a gash on his palm requiring stitches and possibly surgery.

Samayoa fled but came back into the house and closed the door. The man broke a front window and climbed through it. Arana and another person, Sebastiana Esteban, 19, were in another room when the man forced the door open and took a telephone from Arana's hand. As he threw the phone to the ground he said: "Call the police. I will deal with them when they get here."

The man struck Arana and Estaban in the head with the flat side of the machete.

The man fled the house, but was located later at 10351 Industrial Park in Bonita Springs.

The report states the couple is "common-law" married, but Diaz has not lived in the Cape Verde Lane residence for several months.

Only Samayoa sought medical treatment at the hospital.

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote!
