Trooper Sees Woman Running, Uncovers Kidnapping

NORTH EAST, Md. (AP) -- A 19-year-old woman running from her ex-boyfriend on Interstate 95 near North East caught the attention of police after the man allegedly kidnapped the woman in Delaware.

A Maryland State Police trooper saw the woman running from 22-year-old Hugo Peralta after police say he kidnapped her at her Newark, Del., home. The woman tried to jump from Peralta's moving car and he stopped when she got out.

Police learned Peralta drove from Alabama to try to restart their relationship, but the woman wasn't interested. That's when police say he kidnapped her, hoping to drive her back to Alabama.

Peralta is jailed in Cecil County. He is charged with kidnapping and assault charges. Police say he is also an illegal immigrant and has been charged by federal authorities.

As a female type, the scariest thing is being stalked, much less kidnapped. In business I have often gotten the point where what I say, although I know much more about the person's financial problem for buying or renting real estate, if the client is a Latino male (a legal citizen or resident as I always study documents and run credit checks), they always spoke a confusing mess since I was female answering any question I asked. They preferred talking to a man, even if it was their illegal cousin that just arrived from Honduras, who of course, knew better.
