Border agents rescue migrants from hot railroad car

DEMING, N.M. U-S Border Patrol agents have rescued more than a dozen illegal immigrants from a hot railroad car in southwestern New Mexico.

A concerned citizen called authorities yesterday after spotting a small group of immigrants walking on Interstate Ten toward Deming. As agents responded to that scene, they spotted several more people near a train.

They apprehended the immigrants outside the train but then noticed a container car that was locked. They opened it and found 15 more immigrants.

A total of 24 illegal immigrants were apprehended in the area.

Border Patrol agents believe the migrants were placed in the train car by a smuggler. The group claimed to be en route to Arizona.
