WASHINGTON -- A Texas congressman says Mexican drug cartel members threatened to kill U.S. agents working on the American side of the border this month.
Rep. Michael McCaul said Thursday that a law enforcement bulletin was issued this month warning that Mexican gangsters were overheard plotting to kill Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and Texas Rangers stationed along the border. McCaul did not identify which cartels or what agency issued the bulletin.
The bulletin warned of a plot to shoot at the agents with AK-47 assault rifles from the Mexican side of the border into the U.S.
ICE agent Jaime Zapata was shot and killed, and agent Victor Aliva was wounded, in a roadside ambush in Mexico in February.

BROWNSVILLE — A new law enforcement bulletin warns that members of drug cartels have been overheard plotting to kill federal agents and Texas Rangers who guard the border, officials in Washington reported Thursday.
The bulletin, which was issued in March, said cartel members planned to use AK-47 assault rifles to shoot agents and Rangers from across the border. It did not name the cartels.
The information was released at a hearing before a panel of the House Committee on Homeland Security. The Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations and Management addressed “The U.S. Homeland Security Role in the Mexican War Against the Drug Cartels.â€Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at https://eepurl.com/cktGTn

McCaul Seeks to Classify Mexican Drug Cartels as Terrorists
03/30/11
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX) has introduced legislation seeking to place six Mexican Drug Cartels – theArellano Feliz Organization, Los Zetas, theBeltran Leyva Organization, La Familia Michoacana, Sinaloa Cartel and Gulf Cartel– on the Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) list. This designation would allow the United States to limit cartels’ financial, property and travel interests, and to impose harsher punishment on anyone who provides materialsupport to cartels.
“The cartels use violence to gain political and economic influence. They have taken control of much of northern Mexico and spillover crime has resulted in the abandonment of property and loss of security on the US side of the border,â€
