Border Patrol: 360 Central Americans attempt to enter U.S. near Ajo

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection

By News release | April 16, 2019 at 2:19 PM MST - Updated April 16 at 2:28 PM

TUCSON, AZ (KOLD News 13) - On Tuesday morning, U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Ajo Station encountered 360 migrants after they illegally entered the country and surrendered to agents west of Lukeville.

BP camera operators spotted the mass of people after several buses arrived south of the U.S.-Mexico border approximately 14 miles west of the Port of Lukeville. BP agents watched as the group exited the buses and walked under the vehicle barrier that sits on the international boundary.

The group, consisting of 360 individuals, mostly family units from Central America, was similar to previous groups that have recently crossed in this remote area. Ajo BP agents quickly worked to determine if any members of the group needed medical attention, and then began to transport the group for processing.

National Park Service employees assisted agents at the site of the crossing, which sits on the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. Additional Border Patrol assets from around the Tucson Sector were diverted to provide humanitarian, transportation, and processing assistance for the large group.

CBP is facing an alarming trend in the rising volume of people illegally crossing the southwestern border of the U.S. The arriving flow is made up primarily of Central American families and unaccompanied children. This stark and increasing shift to more vulnerable populations, combined with the overwhelming numbers, and inadequate capacity to detain families and children has created a humanitarian and border security crisis.

The increase in apprehensions is taxing the entire immigration system, especially the capabilities of ICE and CBP, creating an untenable situation for both CBP personnel and migrants.

and in many cases the Border Patrol is not even there to roll out their welcome mat. The Constitutional Patriots stop them and hold them, and call BP to come and get them. I have watched them hold them for 5 to 10 minutes. Once BP rolled in and said "did you call for UBER?" Yet, BP says-----The U.S. Border Patrol told ABC-7 it did not request any help from any militia groups.

Once I watched BP roll in and BP did not even get out of the vehicle to check the group for weapons etc. The invaders opened the door, and all 8 and their backpacks got into the back seat of a pick up truck. Apparently so many they couldn't get the door shut, and then BP got out and shut the door. A English speaking voice was yelling, "Where is the seat belts?"

Listen to the coughing in that video!

'Patriot' group records video of hundreds of migrants entering US near Sunland Park

SUNLAND PARK, New Mexico - Border Patrol agents apprehended more than 300 migrants who crossed into the U.S. near Sunland Park, New Mexico.

The apprehension of the group was recorded by the United Constitutional Patriots, a group of veterans who set up a camp near the U.S.-Mexico border not too far away from the Anapra Gap, the spot where the border barrier ends near Mount Cristo Rey.

A message posted on the United Constitutional Patriots' page after the migrants were detained Monday night stated: "This group was so huge we won't have an accurate count until the BP is finished processing them. This needs to stop!!!!! Build the wall."

The video shows Border Patrol agents as they apprehend members of the group of migrants that crossed into the U.S.

A member of the United Constitutional Patriots told ABC-7 357 migrants were detained, but the U.S. Border Patrol would not confirm the exact number.

ABC-7 spoke with members of the United Constitutional Patriots in March 2019. The group told ABC-7 its members are armed, but they are aware they are not allowed to detain, approach or engage people entering the U.S. illegally. The group said it is merely at the border to alert Border Patrol agents when undocumented immigrants cross into the U.S.

Tens of thousands of migrants from Central America, South America, the Carribean and Africa continue to enter the U.S. via to Southwest border to request asylum.

The United Constitutional Patriots told ABC-7 they plan to have a presence in Sunland Park until President Trump builds his proposed border wall.

"This country was built on three things: God, guns and guts. That American flag has to keep flying," said United Constitutional Patriots Commander John Horton, "It's in danger, a lot of danger right now."
The U.S. Border Patrol told ABC-7 it did not request any help from any militia groups.

    UPDATED: April 17, 2019 at 7:16 pm
PHOENIX — Border agents say a group of nearly 400 migrants was apprehended at the Arizona-Mexico border on Tuesday.
U.S. Border Patrol spokesman Roy Villareal said at a press conference that there were almost 200 children accompanied by parents and about 30 unaccompanied minors traveling with the group west of Lukeville.

“We’re talking about infants, all the way up to 16 or 17 years old,” he said.

“What’s problematic about this, when we speak of a humanitarian crisis, is the fact that smugglers are exploiting these very vulnerable people.”

Villareal said three charter buses drove up to the border and dropped off the group.

A video released by Border Patrol shows part of the group run across the border, where its members wait to be apprehended by border agents.

Villareal said the group of at least 393 people created a “tremendous gap in border security” because he had to close down a checkpoint and assign an entire station of agents to handle it.

He said his agency does not have enough buses to bring the migrants into the central station, so it was taking a long time to move them all.

“When these caravans show up, when these large groups show up, they impact border security,” Villareal said.

“And so, collectively, the United States Border Patrol in partnership with CBP and DHS … is trying to mitigate this.”
