Border Patrol agent dies in crash southwest of Tucson

A U.S. Border Patrol agent was killed Thursday morning in a vehicle crash southwest of Tucson, authorities said.

The on-duty agent was northbound on Federal Route 19 near Sells when he was involved in a two-vehicle collisiion, according to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The agent was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not released.

The woman driving the other vehicle suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Ariz. Border Patrol agent killed in car wreck

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A U.S. Border Patrol agent was killed in a car accident Thursday near Sells in southern Arizona.

The agency provided few details but said the agent was involved in a two-vehicle accident around 9:30 a.m. on Federal Route 19.

The agent was pronounced dead at the scene. The agent was not identified so all family members could be notified.

The female driver of the other vehicle had minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

Border Patrol spokesman Omar Candelaria says it's the second agent death this year. Another agent was killed in a car accident near Rachal, Texas earlier this year.

Chief Patrol Agent Victor Manjarrez, Jr. says the death is a "terrible tragedy" and fellow agents all are feeling a sense of loss.

The lady was later arrested and charged with homicide after being found to be under the influence and responsible for the accident when she failed to stop at the intersection. She was arrested and charged this week by reservation police.
