Border Patrol Agents Arrest Convicted Sex Offender

Yuma, Ariz. – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Yuma, Ariz. station Tuesday arrested a man illegally present in the U.S. who was confirmed to be a convicted sex offender.

The 47-year-old citizen of Mexico has been previously convicted of sexual assault, kidnapping and sexual penetration. He had served a two-year term in San Quentin prison for those charges. The subject also previously had been deported.

The man was one of three subjects traveling together in a taxi cab Tuesday, near the Andrade, Calif. port of entry. Border Patrol agents conducted a vehicle stop on the taxi and determined that the three passengers in the vehicle were illegally present in the United States.

The subjects were taken to the Yuma Border Patrol station for processing. The man will be charged with re-entry after deportation.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
