Border Patrol agents arrest convicted sex offender near Alamogordo

El Paso area Border Patrol agents arrested a convicted sex offender on Monday near Alamogordo.

Agents said Delfina Alvarado, 48, was stopped at a Border Patrol traffic checkpoint on Highway 70 when agents noticed she was nervous and giving "inconsistent statements."

Agents soon discovered Alvarado allegedly had narcotics, drug paraphernalia and illegal prescription drugs in her vehicle, and had a past conviction of criminal sexual penetration of a minor and criminal sexual contact with a minor. She was turned over to deputies from the Otero County Sheriff's Office.

In a separate incident on Friday, agents in Fort Hancock seized more than 500 pounds of marijuana valued at $420,000 from a suspicious vehicle. No arrests have been made.
