Citizens from the island can now leave the country

A new Cuban era began this Monday thanks to the reform of an immigration law that will allow Cuban citizens to travel abroad. Also, those who have previously left the island years ago will now be able to come back.

With this reform, Cuban citizens will be also allowed to stay out of the country for 11 to 24 months, by simple having a valid Cuban passport and visa of the country he or she will be traveling to. However, the Cuban government will be regulating passports and could possibly reject those who they consider of “public interest” or who they think “pose a danger to national security.”

For those who have been in exile from the island, they can now come and visit Cuba and can stay for a time period of between 90 to 180 days. It is estimated that 85% of Cubans who live in exile are in the United States.

This is one of the most important reforms that have taken place under President Raul Castro.
