Border Patrol agents arrest two convicted sex offenders

El Paso sector Border Patrol agents have arrested two convicted sex offenders in separate incidents.
Agents on Tuesday arrested Antonio Batista, a U.S. citizen who has previously been convicted of sexual assault of a minor and sex abuse, among other charges, and Eduardo Rodriguez-Lopez, a Mexican citizen whose criminal history includes a sexual offense with a minor under the age of 14.
Agents arrested Batista in Lordsburg, N.M., after responding to a call for assistance by Hidalgo County Sheriff's deputies. Agents said Batista had been recently released from an Arizona prison after serving 19 years for various offenses. He is now facing federal alien smuggling charges. A woman traveling with Batista was also arrested and faces administrative immigration charges.
Hours later, agents in El Paso arrested Rodriguez-Lopez after he allegedly tried to enter the U.S. illegally. While processing Rodriguez-Lopez's criminal history, they discovered he had been arrested by agents 16 times before, and had previously been convicted of having sex with a minor under the age of 14. Rodriguez was booked to the El Paso County Jail.
