Men in country illegally charged with trafficking meth
July 11, 2018
Authorities say they have arrested two Mexicans in the country illegally and charged them with trafficking methamphetamine in Rowan, Yadkin and Davie counties.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday that investigators had seized 1.5 pounds of crystal meth with a street value of $68,000 from the two men. The suspects had been under investigation since January, a release said.
Alfredo Arias-Vello, 52, and Luciano Vargas-Benitez, 34, were arrested on June 27. Deputies say undercover officers bought meth from both suspects during the investigation.
The Salisbury Police Department, Mocksville Police Department, Yadkinville Police Department and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security aided the probe.
Arias-Vello, who lives in Yadkinville, was charged with nine counts of trafficking methamphetamine by possession, sale and transportation and one counts of conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine. He has a $500,000 secured bond.
Vargas-Benitez, who lives on Mocksville, was facing a charge of conspiracy to traffic methamphetamine. He also has a $500,000 secured bond.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of North Carolina will prosecute the case, officials say.

If we have a zero tolerance and No catch and Release, then why a $500,000 bond?

Two different sets of laws. If you're prosecuted under the criminal code for drug charges, you're entitled to bond under the criminal code because you're innocent until proven guilty in a trial in a court of law. If you're held pending a deportation hearing under immigration law, you can be held without bond and deported, unless you're held too long waiting for the government to schedule the hearing, then the courts require you be released.

In these cases it doesn't seem the two illegals were actually released on bond. It just says they were given a secured bond. If they actually come up with the secured bond, Ice can still take custody and place the illegals in detention where they can be processed for removal. Since DHS was involved in the investigation that led to the arrest, I would think there would be an immigration hold on the two suspects. Maybe they are on an immigration hold and it's just not mentioned in the article.
Whatever the case, make no mistake, ICE has the power to take any illegal alien into custody for removal proceedings, even if given bail from jail or a secure bond by a criminal court.
I do not support ICE deporting illegals prior to them receiving sentencing for a criminal act, but it happens. I believe they should be held in detention until their actual criminal case comes before a judge. If found guilty, they should serve their time in prison before deportation.

What the defenders of illegals don't get when they cite "lower crime rates" (if that is even true in the first place) is that drug trafficking takes an enormous toll on human life. Our country has hundreds of Mexican Drug Trafficking Organizations. How many millions of Americans have been wasted because of these crimes?
I had some people working here last summer---it didn't take long before I found out they typically had criminal records. But there was a young female who I found had some meth arrests (along with unauthorized vehicle use) and it appeared to me she might be showing physical signs of meth abuse. Found out her old man was an MS 13 gangster. I called the local gang task force. Hope he is gone soon. What a despicable person."Men of low degree are vanity, Men of high degree are a lie. " David
