Border Patrol agents raid 5 stash houses in South Texas

    • Posted April 30, 2013 at 1:46 McALLEN — U.S. Border Patrol agents have shuttered five stash houses and arrested some 230 immigrants near the U.S.-Mexico border in South Texas.
The agency said Tuesday the raids were made with other law enforcement agencies and stemmed from tips.
Immigrants who are entering the country illegally are usually warehoused in homes near the border until they can arrange the next leg of their journey north.
Border Patrol says the largest bust Monday in Mission resulted in the arrests of two suspected smugglers and 78 immigrants.
Other operations were interrupted in San Juan, Donna, Brownsville and at a motel in downtown McAllen where 21 immigrants were found.
