SANTA TERESA - Border Patrol agents in Santa Teresa on Thursday seized more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana from a stolen truck that was being used to transport the narcotics into the United States.

On Thursday, Border Patrol agents assigned to the station in Santa Teresa, N.M., were performing routine operations when they observed a suspicious vehicle driving along the north side of the U.S./Mexico boundary. As the agent approached the vehicle, the truck began to speed up and made a turn south to the border. In an attempt to elude the agent and drive into Mexico, the driver hit a vehicle barrier and stopped. The driver proceeded to get out of the vehicle, jump the vehicle barrier and run into Mexico.

Border Patrol agents were able to secure the vehicle and soon discovered the truck had been reported stolen in Albuquerque, N.M.

Further inspection led to the discovery of 195 bundles of marijuana with a total weight of 1,010 pounds valued at $808,280. The narcotics and the vehicle were turned over to the custody the Drug Enforcement Administration.
