U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Yuma Sector, with the assistance of the Yuma Police Department, apprehended four illegal immigrants with criminal histories.

Around 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Yuma Border Patrol station agents received several citizens’ reports of four suspected illegal immigrants near Avenue 3E and the railroad tracks in Yuma. Several agents responded along with a YPD officer participating in Operation Stonegarden, a joint effort between the Border Patrol and local, state and tribal law enforcement agencies to enhance border security.

At 8 a.m., the YPD officer located the four individuals hiding beneath the bridge at Pacific Avenue. Border Patrol agents took custody of the individuals and determined them to be Mexican nationals in the United States illegally.

The individuals were transported to the Yuma Border Patrol station for processing where a records check revealed all four have criminal histories including assault, drug possession, driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol and prior immigration violations.

Additionally, one had an outstanding felony warrant from Maricopa County, for possession of illegal narcotics with intent to sell. During questioning, the individuals told agents that they rode a train from Tucson.

Three are being presented for prosecution for re-entry after deportation, and the fourth was turned over to YPD for extradition to the Maricopa County Jail for the felony warrant.

We need to stop the catch and release program

We need to stop the catch and release and start the manditory 30 - 60 - 90 day incarceration depending on the times they are found to have crossed illegally
