Border Patrol Agents Arrest Illegal Immigrant Convicted of Sexual Assault

Santa Teresa, N.M. – Border Patrol agent have arrested a sex offender who entered the country illegally this weekend.

Border Patrol agents assigned to the Santa Teresa Station were working near the Santa Teresa Port of Entry when they saw two people crossing the border illegally.

One person, 37-year-old Jose Luis Carrera Diaz from Mexico, had a prior arrest for 1st Degree Sexual Assault and Possession of a Controlled Substance in Belton, MO in December of 2006. Carrera Diaz was tried and convicted on both charges and after serving time in prison, was formally removed from the United States.

Carrera Diaz now faces charges for violating his prior order of removal. Carrera Diaz was processed and remanded to the Otero County Prison Facility pending his prosecution.
