Border Patrol agents patrolling the Texas-Mexico border apprehended 15 Congo nationals after they entered the country illegally Wednesday, according to a news release.

The 15 included five men, five women and five children, according to the U.S. Border Patrol news release. They were spotted by agents performing a line watch operation Wednesday, May 28, 2019.

They were taken to the Eagle Pass South Border Patrol Station for processing.

Through interviews, Border Patrol agents discovered they were from The Republic of Congo. This is one of many different nationalities being found at the border, according to the release.

"Our Border Patrol agents are facing more unique challenges every day as the number of family units from different regions of the world continue to increase," said Randy Davis, Del Rio sector acting chief patrol agent.

Since Oct. 1, 2018, Border Patrol has apprehended 23,000 people who were from countries besides Mexico.

This is a 450% increase from the 2018 fiscal year, according to the release.
