ONLINE EXTRA: Border Patrol arrests 3 west of Columbus

DEMING — The U.S. Border Patrol reported the apprehension of three undocumented immigrants, one of whom has an extensive criminal record.

The three were encountered by USBP agents on Friday, 25 miles west of Columbus, as the immigrants walked in the open desert. They had entered the United States from Mexico. Two were Mexican nationals, the third an El Salvadoran who has served 13 years in California prisons.

Oscar Noel Queva, 38, has convictions for kidnapping, felony domestic violence, grand theft auto, assault with a firearm on a police officers and attempted murder, the last reduced from a murder charge.

"He will be detained pending criminal proceedings and charged with re-entry as an aggravated felon," said Doug Mosier, with the USBP in El Paso.

The man's criminal history was obtained via the FBI's Integrated Automated

Fingerprint Identification System. Queva was being held Monday at the El Paso Processing Center.

His two traveling companions were to be processed and returned to Mexico. They had no criminal records, the USBP reported.
