Border Patrol Arrests Chinese National Carrying $28,000 in Gold Bars

Kitco reported that U.S. border patrol agents recently arrested a Chinese national possessing more than $28,500 in gold bars after illegally crossing the Canada-U.S. border.

Last week, a 36-year-old Chinese woman was arrested in Amity, Maine after she illegally crossed the U.S. border from Canada. The individual in question was carrying 14.25 ounces of gold bars, which is the equivalent of more than $28,500, in addition to $10,000 in cash.

“While conducting operations near Amity, U.S. Border Patrol Agents from the Houlton Border Patrol Station apprehended a 36-year-old Chinese national who was found to have illegally entered the United States from Canada,” the authorities declared in a statement on August 6, 2020. “The Chinese national was placed under arrest for illegal entry into the United States and transported to the Houlton Border Patrol Station for further processing.”

She was arrested August 4 and the border patrol agents discovered the location of the illegal crossing.

Since this incident, the Chinese national was sent back to Canada.

After further investigation, it was determined that the Chinese national arrived into Canada legally as a student. She confessed to knowingly crossing the U.S. border illegally and said she had plans of visiting a friend in San Francisco.

“The vigilance, service and integrity of our Border Patrol Agents who continue to apprehend those who are looking to circumvent customs and immigration laws, plays an important role in keeping our communities in Maine and throughout the United States safe,” declared Houlton Station Patrol Agent in Charge Brent Conley.
A bizarre incident indeed.
