Border Patrol: Chinese immigrant arrests up in Tucson area

U.S. Border Patrol truck Border Patrol agents have arrested another seven Chinese nationals.

The bust happened Tuesday in the desert west of Nogales. As of Wednesday morning, the were still being processed.

In the past month, agents have arrested 25 Chinese immigrants, crossing into Arizona illegally from Mexico.

While illegal entries in the Tucson Sector are down 29-percent overall, during the first six months of the current fiscal year, the number of Chinese immigrant arrests is up.

Agent Mike Scioli says one reason may be that Chinese immigrants are willing to pay smugglers more money.

For example, last month, several Chinese immigrants arrested had paid smugglers $20,000 each for help sneaking into the U.S.
