Border Patrol Discovers 25 Illegal Aliens in Travel Trailer

Agents Arrest 56-Year-Old Man for Smuggling

    (Monday, May 18, 2009)

Pine Valley, Calif. - A man who appeared to be returning from a weekend camping trip was actually involved with smuggling 25 illegal aliens in a travel trailer, U.S. Border Patrol agents found out yesterday during a checkpoint inspection on westbound Interstate 8 in Pine Valley.

The man, a 56-year-old lawfully admitted permanent resident from Mexico, was hauling the travel trailer with a Ford F-250 as he arrived at the checkpoint at about 6:15 p.m. A U.S. Border Patrol K-9 immediately alerted on the trailer, leading agents to direct the vehicle to a secondary inspection.

A Mexican national was arrested May 17 on charges of smuggling 25 illegal aliens in a travel trailer.

During further questioning, the man admitted to the agents that people were inside the trailer. The agents then conducted a search and found 20 males and five females huddled throughout the trailer.

The agents arrested the suspected smuggler, who is currently in federal custody for alien smuggling charges. The illegal aliens, who are all from Mexico, were taken into custody and have either been returned to Mexico or are being held as material witnesses.

As a part of the U.S. Border Patrol’s defense-in-depth enforcement posture, checkpoints operations serve as a valuable tool to prevent the smuggling of humans, drugs, and other contraband to the interior of our country.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.

Good! Personally I think anyone who is smuggling people in this country and the relatives that paid for it should be charged what ever the costs were to deport them, any search and rescue and/or medical costs involved. I have suggested this to the Coast Guard already and want to bring it to the attention of Border Patrol and Homeland Security. Living in Florida I am fed up with all the tine and money being spent on it due to the Cubans and now the Haitians who send money to get their relatives smuggled into the United States. The relatives are only aiding and abetting criminals and should pay for it somehow.

They confiscate the cars, trucks, boats and planes that are used. They got a nice pick up truck and a trailer that looks new in the picture. They sell most of them at auction and law enforcement agencies get to use some of them for under cover work too.

I realize they do take vehciles in smuggling operations and sell them at auction for money. Many smugglers now steal boats for that reason.

We are getting a lot of boats in San Diego lately. Not very big and not very fancy, no "Go Fast" boats like in Florida, but I don't know of anyone coming here to claim them as their stolen property after they have been seized. I'm not sure when and where the government sells them. Seizing the outbound cash is the best deal for law enforcement.

You look under U.S. Treasury and there will be a link to auctions. You should check out some of the vehicles. As for the stolen boats, the owners call in and report them stolen so when the boat is found and processed the owner gets it back.
I know a person who was telling me about a guy who lives by her parent's place in the Keys and hides a go fast boat in a bushy area. She thought the guy was smuggling drugs and I told her it was not likely drugs as they bring it in across land more. I told her that the guy was most likely smuggling Cubans and that she notify Border Patrol or ICE.

The boats are from Mexico and the local papers says no one claims them after they are seized.

I sent this story on to the US Congress. I want to especially make sure the Senate Judiciary committee members get it.
