Border Patrol Encounters Stolen Vehicle in Smuggling Scheme

Border Patrol Encounters Stolen Vehicle in Smuggling Scheme

    Release Date: May 27, 2020

LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Border Patrol agents intercepted a human smuggling attempt and recovered a stolen vehicle near Farm to Market Roads (FM) 1019 and 468, north of Laredo.

The incident occurred on the morning of May 25, when agents assigned to the Cotulla Station encountered a maroon Dodge crew cab pickup truck near a local ranch two miles east of the intersection of FM 1019 and FM 468.

When the driver of the vehicle saw the agents, he drove the pickup truck into the brush, colliding with several trees.

Several individuals bailed from the vehicle and attempted to abscond on foot.

A search of the area led to the apprehension of six individuals who were determined to be in the United States illegally from the country of Mexico.

They were placed under arrested pending further investigation. The pickup truck was determined to have been reported stolen and was turned over to the Dimmit County Sheriff’s Office.

Despite the ongoing international COVID-19 pandemic, alien smugglers continue to endanger the lives of individuals they transport and put at risk the health and safety of our nation. U.S. Border Patrol agents remain vigilant as they strive to prevent the flow of illegal immigration and slow the spread of COVID-19.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between official ports of entry. CBP is charged with securing the borders of the United States while enforcing hundreds of laws and facilitating lawful trade and travel.
