Border Patrol Officer Attacked At El Paso Gasoline Station

    UPDATED: 6:02 pm MST November 3, 2008

EL PASO, Texas -- El Paso police are investigating an attack on a border patrol officer who was off duty. A border patrol spokesperson said the agent was attacked Tuesday, Oct. 28 at the Howdy’s gas station at Artcraft Road and Interstate-10.

Border Patrol said the agent was trying to pump gas, when he noticed three men staring at him. The men then became confrontational and that escalated into an attack on the agent, agents said. El Paso police said no one has been charged in this case, but someone involved at the site of the crime was arrested on unrelated charges.

The agent received minor injuries. Border Patrol would not confirm if the agent was in uniform or if a weapon was used. While Border Patrol does not track off-duty attacks, they said attacks on their agents are on the rise.

“Just to bring in their narcotics or human cargo, they don’t care,’ said Border Patrol spokesman Ramiro Cordero. “They’re going to try to hurt us. Just last year we had a 20 percent increase in assaults against our agents.â€

I would call this a hate crime. Would the SPLC agree?

This article does not say if the attacker were IA's or if they were caught or if they will be deported. If anyone hears anything as a follow up please post it....

I believe I know exactly where this happened but the intersection is perhaps Airway (not Artcraft) and I-10. I know because I use that same gas station before heading for the airport. I am not surprised to hear this. I myself see a lot of shady people there, many who have approached me before. I hope that someone gets prosecuted for this attack. They surely knew who it was they were attacking!

I can't believe I didn't hear this. I live in El Paso. Was this in the news!!! I work in law enforcement, as a civilian, but I am becoming extremely afraid for our officers. It is unbelievable to me, it is like no one cares ANYTHING about our Police or BP? We have the Barrio Azteca gang filth in this town and I am wondering if they were behind this.??

This sounds like the time our government warned our military, for their own safety, not to wear their uniforms when traveling to "our" southern borders. Sometimes it seems the ILLEGALS and their Anchors are more secure in the United States than our own Citizens!
