Border Patrol Mountain Climbers Rescue 6 Aliens Trapped in Ravine South of San Diego

San Diego — Six Mexican citizens illegally entered the United States through a treacherous canyon early this morning, four miles west of the San Ysidro port of entry and had to be rescued from dangerous ravines by Border Patrol search and rescue personnel.

The Border Patrol has posted signs and fencing warning potential illegal border crossers of the canyon’s dangerous features. The ravine’s jagged ledges drop 80 feet and require mountain climbing equipment to safely exit. The subjects had slid down a vertical slope and could not climb out or exit the canyon without risking serious injury or death.

The Border Patrol’s Border Search Trauma and Rescue team (BORSTAR) launched a rescue mission and responded with a full team of agents trained specifically for this type of technical rescue. Equipped with state-of-the art equipment, the BORSTAR team rappelled down the ravine and secured each of the subjects with safety lines and rescue harnesses.
