Border Patrol RGV sector disrupts human smuggling attempts

EDINBURG, Texas - U.S. Border Patrol agent’s arrest over 70 undocumented immigrants in three human smuggling attempts.

On Tuesday, agents working at the Javier Vega Jr. checkpoint referred a pickup truck hauling a trailer to the secondary inspection area after a Border Patrol K-9 alerted to the trailer. During the inspection, agents discovered 28 undocumented immigrants concealed inside. Agents arrested the driver and escorted all subjects into the checkpoint.


That same day, the Texas Department Public Safety (TXDPS) requested the assistance from Corpus Christi Border Patrol agents after they conducted a vehicle stop revealed a human smuggling attempt. Agents responded the scene and discovered four undocumented immigrants from Honduras in a compartment within truck bed. Border Patrol took custody of the undocumented immigrants and TXDPS took custody of the driver and vehicle.


On Thursday, agents assigned to the Javier Vega Jr. checkpoint referred a pickup towing a box trailer for a secondary inspection after a Border Patrol K-9 alerted. Upon opening the box trailer, agents observed 40 undocumented immigrants from the countries of Guatemala, Ecuador, Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras and Peru. Agents arrested the driver and escorted all the subjects into the checkpoint.

The Border Patrol is processing all subjects accordingly.
