Border Patrol agents seized close to 8 tons of marijuana in various seizures last week, according to a news release from the federal agency’s Rio Grande Valley Sector.
The largest seizure took place Thursday at the Falfurrias checkpoint when a K-9 alerted agents to a tractor-trailer that had 3,500 pounds of marijuana inside, according to the release. Earlier that day, agents seized a similar trailer with 2,600 pounds of marijuana.

On Tuesday, agents with the horse patrol found a minivan that was being loaded with marijuana near Los Ebanos. Other agents and a DPS helicopter chased the van and eventually the passenger and driver bailed out and ran, according to the release.
The driver got away but left behind the passenger and 1,200 pounds of marijuana. Other seizures during the week added up to almost 16,000.
