Border Patrol seizes 14 pounds of meth

Patrol agents seized more than 14 pounds of methamphetamine after stopping g a car along the 5 freeway, authorities said.

Agents stopped the car Wednesday morning near the Avenida Pico exit, but became suspicious of the driver when he was giving agents inconsistent answers, according to a statement released by the U.S. Border Patrol.

U.S. Border Patrol agents found more than 14 pounds of crystal methamphetamine hidden insid e a car that was stopped along the I-5 Wednesday morning.

The car was being driven by an 18-year-old man from National City at about 7:40 a.m., the statement read.
Officials called a K-9 team to inspect the vehicle.
Agents searched the car and found panels that gave access to the car's rear wheel wells, officials said.

Inside, officials allegedly found 12 bundles of crystal methamphetamine.

The driver of the car, whose identity was not released, was taken into custody and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration, according to the statement.
