Border Patrol Seizes More than $1.2 Million of Cocaine

Indio, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents working at the Highway 86 Checkpoint on Tuesday seized approximately 38 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of $1.2 million.

The cocaine was seized from a silver colored sedan after it entered the highway 86 checkpoint for inspection. The sedan was sent to the secondary area where a Border Patrol canine team alerted to the vehicle, leading to the discovery of fifteen cellophane wrapped packages that tested positive for cocaine.

The cocaine weighs approximately 38 pounds and has an estimated value of $1.2 million.

The vehicle, cocaine and driver, a United States Citizen, were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
