Border protection forces recover 715 pounds of pot

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — U.S. Border Patrol ground and air crews recovered 715 pounds of pot worth nearly $600,000 in the western Arizona desert Thursday.

A Customs and Border Protection crew spotted 41 bundles of marijuana and relayed the location to Border Patrol agents on the ground. Agents seized and transported the bundles to the Ajo (AH'-hoh) Border Patrol station for processing.

From Oct. 1, 2009, to Aug. 31, the Tucson Sector Border Patrol seized more than 943,000 pounds of marijuana valued in excess of $754 million.
