Boston Herald coverage of Anti-illegal immigration Rally

    Rally rails vs. illegal immigration
    By Kimberly Atkins
    Friday, April 7, 2006

Conservative talk radio host Michael Graham drew a packed crowd to the State House yesterday to rally against efforts on Capitol Hill to ease curbs on illegal immigration.

Hundreds of Graham fans - loudly cheering “USA! USA!” and “Remember the Alamo!” - filled the Gardener Auditorium to capacity, with dozens more who couldn’t get in lined up outside for the event, which was broadcast live on 96.9 FM.

“We are going to defend our borders today!” Graham declared, drawing thunderous applause from the crowd that gathered as a counter to a rally supporting immigration-law changes held Tuesday by the Massachusetts Immigrant & Refugee Advocacy Coalition.

State Rep. Marie Parente (D-Milford), who hosted yesterday’s event, said undocumented immigrants created a “population explosion” in her district, living in packed houses with “wall-to-wall mattresses,” rooting through trash cans to steal utility bills and other identity tools to get services, and spreading diseases such as tuberculosis.

“When they walk across the border (there) are no blood tests administered,” said Parente, a key opponent to a bill - defeated earlier this year - that would have given children of illegal immigrants in-state college tuition rates at state universities. “I urge you to think about your health, the health of your family and your children as they stand next to us without the health documentation to keep us all safe.”

Independent gubernatorial candidate Christy Mihos, who had agreed to participate in a MIRA candidates’ forum Tuesday but failed to show up, told the crowd yesterday that the state should focus on providing services to citizens, not illegal immigrants. “We cannot care for our own students,” Mihos said.

Ali Noorani, MIRA’s executive director, said the rally in opposition to his groups is part of a “political fire that is being lit and pushed, and not leading to anything beneficial.”

[/b]Not lead to anything beneficial? But the illegal immigrants protests are okay and leading to something beneficial, this is crap This is again the biased media coverage that we get as american citizens standing up for this sham the government is trying to jam down our throats. WE MUST OVERCOME THIS INVASION!!!

    Lsmith,
Any photos of this rally yet? Would love to see it. I noticed the article said hundreds turned out but you thought it was thousands. Any idea what the capacity of that auditorium is? I'm just curious if the media is deliberately understating attendance because I wouldn't put it past them!

We had some video coverage on NECN, but none stating numbers, we also had this article in the Boston Herald which did understate the actual numbers of people that attended. Also if you look at the article in the Boston Herald there is a picture there now of me holding the flag. We are waiting on 96.9FM to put up their pix on their website and hopefully they should have the numbers of attendees today. Will keep you posted

Rally For America's Borders! Who Was There...And Who Wasn't?

If we lived in a rational world (as opposed to Massachusetts), one would assume that a gathering of more than 1,000 voters and citizens speaking out in defense of America's borders would draw a large contingent of politicians and candidates. The total head count at yesterday's Defend Our Borders Town Hall meeting?

    Six. That's it. Six.

Rep. Parente, and state Senators Hedlund and Fargo were the only elected officials who had the courage to join us in support of border security and the rule of law.

Three candidates also joined us: Gubernatorial candidate Christy Mihos, Congressional candidate Richard Barton and state senate candidate Doug Obey.

No Mitt Romney. No Kerry Healy. No Tom Reilly or Chris Gabreli.

This is a pathetically short list, given the number of legislators and candidates who came to Gardner Auditorium two days earlier to show their support for continued illegal immigration and amnesty. Deval Patrick was there, along with Andrea Silbert and others, all asking NON-CITIZENS for their support in our elections. But they were all no-shows when a gathering of citizens came to the State House two days later.

Speaking of no-shows, where the heck was the Boston Globe? They've covered every pro-amnesty event in town, including Tuesday's, but had zero coverage of the taxpaying citizens at the State House. Channel 4? Channel 5? Channel 7? Fox 25?

Nothing. They all covered previous pro-illegal events on Beacon Hill, and they all blew us off.

Kudos, however, to the Boston Herald, Metrowest Daily News and NECN for doing something the Boston Globe abandoned long ago: Covering the actual news.

This is the article posted by 96.9FM today regarding the rally and thanking those who covered it.
